facilitation
I facilitate using a Socratic style of interaction to
enable discovery of the drivers and concerns that surround issues. In a safe
interactive environment, I allow people to understand what issues mean to them,
personally and professionally. Typically, facilitation focuses on:
Team building. To emphasize the inherent strength of diversity, I use exercises to
discover how different people look at the same information differently. By
guiding people through a highly informative assessment of their individual
preferences and prejudices, they discover “how” to communicate and
work together. Diversity can be celebrated and used for enhanced team
performance.
Visioning. To create a common
vision for an enterprise, I lead stakeholders through an iterative process
using high energy breakouts to tap into their fundamental perspectives. Using a neutral, team focused method;
consensus on vision is established without the barriers of organizational
hierarchies or competition. Future actions, behaviors and decisions can then be
premised on the shared vision.
Strategic planning. With a common vision established, I lead groups through formal group exercises to conceptualize and create consensus regarding their strategic direction. This can include an external environmental assessment followed by breakouts focused on organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) premised on both internal and external environments. Other exercises focus on core values, mission and long term or audacious goal(s). The result is a strategic backdrop upon which operational and business plans are established.
